Drain pipes get blocked. That includes sewer pipes too. It happens even to the best of homeowners.
One of the best ways to unblock a drain is a technique called hydro-jetting. Simply put, the hydrojet pushes high pressure water through your water pipes, literally blasting the clog away. The hydrojet is self-propelled, meaning it will take off down the full pipe, blasting debris along the way and flushing it away. For more complex clogs, we can do a video line inspection to find any severe clogs or back-ups.
Hydro Jetting vs Snaking a Drain
A plumbing snake is ideal for minor clogs or to remove occasional blockages, such as too much toilet paper, stuck toys, or food stuck in the line. If your plunger won’t remove the material, a snake is usually enough to remove common clogs, or push it to a larger section of pipe. Snakes can also alert you to more serious problems. For example, if it can’t break through the material, you may have a tree root in the line, and not a buildup of hair. Hydro-jetting, on the other hand, doesn’t just break up clogs. A hyrdo jet cleans your plumbing lines of heavy sludge and grease type materials that build up on pipe walls over time. Snaking doesn’t clean your pipes. It is just used to clear a clog. Hydro jetting can clear almost any clog, it’s not an option for the average homeowner that wants to fix the issue themselves. If your pipes are damaged or weak, a hydro jet may cause more damage, so it is a process that should be done by a professional plumber to avoid damaging your plumbing.
Amigo Rooter and Plumbing recommends hydrojetting for most of your drain cleaning issues. For clogs or items that need to be cleared from the way, we It is certainly much cleaner, more effective and cheaper than having to take the pipes apart to find the problem. But to find out if this is the right service for you, give us a call or fill out the form on the right.
Garbage disposals are designed to last for at least several years with no operating problems. Eventually, they do break down. So when you need your garbage disposal repaired or a new disposal installed, call your friends at Amigo Plumbing.
Most Common Disposal Issues:
Not receiving power – This may seem like an obvious solution, but sometimes the cord comes loose, either from the wall or inside the unit itself. Make sure that it is plugged in, the switch is on, and that the outlet is putting out power. It could be as simple as a tripped breaker or GFCI outlet needing reset.
Overload – Most garbage disposals have a feature that automatically shuts them off before they get too hot. This feature prevents them from breaking from overheating. You can try hitting the red reset button on the bottom of the unit, however, if this doesn’t work, then you can try the hex wrench trick listed next.
Jammed - If your garbage disposal is jammed, you may be able to fix it yourself. On the bottom of the unit is a spot to use a 1/4in hex wrench to help free the impellers. Insert the hex wrench into the hole on the bottom and move back and forth. You don’t need to actually turn it, just move it back and forth. Then try turning the disposal on again.
Stuck Object – This can range from a piece of silverware to a piece of food wrapped around the blades. Do not try to remove the object if it is sufficiently jammed! If you are going to try to remove the object, make sure to unplug the disposal before you put your hand in the drain.
Clogged – These issues can be caused from a variety of things. Sometimes congealed grease, hair, fibrous food, dirt or something else can cause a clog in the disposal or the drain. No matter what the cause, it’s a problem that needs to be fixed. Please contact Amigo Plumbing to clean out the clog. Our plumbers will use products that are safe for your drains. Additionally, it may be necessary to clean out the P trap, and if the clog is severe, the line may need to be cleared.
Leaks – There are a few reasons that a garbage disposal may be leaking. All the multiple inlets, outlets, rings, connections, and seals, you could spring a leak a leak at any given time. The most common places for a leak are between the unit and the sink, the dishwasher connection, a crack in the body or the drain/discharge pipe.
There is one additional problem you might experience here in Arizona. Our water is filled with plenty of dissolved minerals and has a high acid content. The chemicals can eat right through the drum of less expensive disposal units.
Amigo Rooter & Plumbing can fix any problem and help advise you on the type of unit that will handle your disposal needs.

There are several reasons why outside faucets leak, especially here in our harsh Arizona climate. Many water spigots have rubber washers. When the faucet is turned off the washer closes off the water supply and prevents leaks. However, extreme heat is hard on rubber and plastic and causes the materials to degrade.
Other problems can be caused by mineral buildup and corrosion of the faucet. Nuts that hold the faucet to the pipes can come loose, and components within the faucet itself can come loose or break down. Valve stems or even the screw holding the handle down may erode and need replaced. Sometimes the handle will just keep spinning and not turn the water off all the way. Even a slow drip can waste over seven gallons of water each day, adding unnecessary costs onto your water bill.
Sometimes we can take the spigot apart and replace the worn out washer or valve stem. Most of the time when a faucet drip it is because of wear and tear over a long period of time and replacing the spigot is the best option.
What Is A Back Flow Preventer On Your Hose Bib?
The back flow preventer is there to make sure that water doesn’t get sucked out of your pool or yard back into the main water line. Many AZ cities require it’s use as a way to prevent contamination of drinking water. It can cause quite a spray when the water is turned off if there is too much water pressure in the hose. Even if you don’t like the back flow preventer, it is there for a reason it is there. If there is a problem with it though, we can help.
No matter the cause of the problem with your outdoor water spigot, there are two things you should know are true. The first is that your water bill will be affected. And the second is that the friendly plumbers at Amigo Rooter and Plumbing are here to help.

Sewer lines carry waste and water away from your home to be treated by your local municipality or through filtering in a septic system. While the city is responsible for maintaining this interconnected system of pipes, homeowners are responsible for the line that runs to their home.
The most common causes of sewer line problems are clogs, tree roots growing into the pipes, or a broken or collapsed line. Old cast iron pipes corrode and build scale and metal flakes come off to create stoppages. These are very common in the valley. Some warning signs you should watch for include:
• Regular backups or blockages
• Mold problems
• Slow drains
• Green patches or slumping in the lawn (for septic fields)
• Septic waste pooling in the yard
• Foundation cracks or settlement
Amigo Rooter and Plumbing has plenty of experience cleaning sewer lines, replacing collapsed lines, as well as installing new lines. If notice any of the problems above, call immediately before the problem gets worse.
How Much Will A Sewer Line Cleaning or Repair Cost?
Obviously, this depends on the work needing to be done. Sometimes, like in the case of a collapsed sewer line, the diagnosis is simple. However, most of the time, the issue is hidden underground. Tankless water heaters are a great way to receive hot water on demand, anywhere in your house. Best of all, you’ll never run out of hot water.
However, many folks are surprised by how long it takes the water to actually reach the faucet or shower. That is where a recirculating pump comes in. It only operates when the water heater does (to avoid voiding the warranty). It returns the cold water in the hot water line to the water heater and has a high speed pump to move the water faster than just water pressure alone can. Of course, recirculating pumps can be added to regular water heating systems as well.
There are plenty of things that can go wrong with tankless water heaters which make repairs a challenge, including:
• Drop in water pressure
• Lots of parts and controls for things to break
• Hard water build up
• Improper installation or set up
• The age of the unit
There are also issues with repairing recirculating pumps, including:
• Vulnerable to corrosion caused by high water flow
• Knocking and noise when air enters the system
• Reduced water pressure
Electric vs Gas
A lot of people don’t realize there are electric tankless water heaters on the market. But if you prefer the efficiency of a gas unit and don’t have gas to your house, we are capable of running a gas line to your home.
Install Or Repair
The friendly plumbers at Amigo Rooter and Plumbing have years of experience with tankless water heater repair & install. And for constant hot water, we can help by setting up a recirculating pump.

• Weak flush
• Partial flush

• Tank is leaking water
• Water level in the tank is too high
• Funny noises when flushing

• Toilet vent pipe clogged or partially clogged
• Water trickling into tank
• Leaky seals
• Too much water pressure
• Toilet water valve won’t shut off
• Foreign items (like kids toys) stuck in the pipes
On average, a leaky toilet can quietly waste about 200 gallons of water per day. That can add up quickly and often adds more than $70 to a monthly water bill. Water heaters are designed to supply hot water throughout your home. However, when something goes wrong, like when you are in the shower, the cold water can come as a real shock. Fortunately, it doesn’t happen that often. The systems that provide hot water are generally reliable and operate for years without a hitch. Eventually, they do wear out. Proper maintenance can extend the life of your water heater but eventually it wear out and need to be repaired or replaced.
Water Heater Repair
Amigo Rooter & Plumbing deals with all kinds of water heater repairs and problems. We service gas, electric, and tankless hot water heaters so you know you are in good hands with us.
Here are some of the common problems we can quickly help you with:
• No hot water
• Not enough hot water
• Water too hot
• Water is discolored or smells bad
• Water heater makes noise – bangs, gurgles, knocking or boiling sounds
• Water heater leaking
Leaking Hot Water Heaters
If your hot water heater is leaking, it could be an indication of a more serious problem, but it could also be as simple as a loose valve. If the leak is happening at the top of the unit, check the pipes where they come together, the pressure relief valve, and the main shut off valve at the wall. If the water heater is leaking from the bottom of the unit and is not coming from the drain valve, the problem may be inside the tank. It is possible the tank has become corroded. If it has, it will probably need replaced. Give the experts at Amigo Plumbing a call to help determine what are the next best steps you should take so that we can get your leak stopped.
Water Heater Replacement or Installation
Replacing a hot water heater can be labor intensive. An old water heater can be quite heavy to remove. The new water heater may not line up properly with the old plumbing. Quite often old shut off valves are corroded and no longer working properly either. Today’s quarter turn shut off valves often replace the old turn style valves to make it easier to shut off the water when in case of a leak or any other issue. If you have a gas water heater the same problems apply to the gas lines that feed into the water heater as well. Thankfully, Amigo Plumbing has the experience with both gas and water lines as well as the tools and plumbing equipment to make any necessary improvements. We can install a new hot water heater for you and take the old one away.
Consider Switching To A Tankless Water Heater
If it is time for a new hot water heater, you may want to consider switching to a new tankless unit. They are more energy efficient, because they only heat the water as it is being used instead of having hot water on reserve. Another benefit is that because the units heat the water as needed, you never run out of hot water again. Another advantage is that they take up considerably less space than older units. Gas and electric models are available and depending on your current set up, it may be relatively easy to make the transition. Ask us how easy it would be to install a tankless unit in your house. Check out our page here for more information.
Water Heater Maintenance
Proper maintenance is especially important with our Phoenix hard water. Sediment build up in the bottom of the tank can reduce the efficiency of the heater, clog the water lines, and shorten the life of the unit. Most manufacturers recommend flushing a unit every six months. This can be an easy thing to do, but most of us ignore it because we have enough other things taking up our time.
Step 1: Connect a hose to the drain outlet near the bottom of the hot water heater. Put the other end of the hose into a cleanout drain or a large bucket.
Step 2: Open the drain spigot and flush the sediment from the bottom of the heater. Leave the water on and flowing until it comes out clear.
Step 3: Close the spigot, disconnect the hose and repeat in six months.

Simply put, when untreated water enters the tank it mixes with salt (sodium). The sodium-saturated water then enters another tank where millions of tiny polystyrene breads attach the sodium molecules. Then the extra salt water is flushed out. Now untreated water enters the tank and the minerals attach themselves to the bead, trading place with the sodium. Then the cycle starts all over again. Problems can occur in any stage of cycle, but specifically:
• If the sodium forms a crust inside the brine tank
• Water high in iron will cause the tank that removes the other minerals to clog
• The injector can become plugged by dirty salt
• Issues with the bypass valve
• Insufficient flow
• Scale buildup
• Valve leaks
• O-Ring problems
• Excessive salt usage
Symptoms of Problems
• Loss of water pressure
• Signs of hard water before the next regen cycle
• Regen cycle issues, like it stays on
• Air escaping your water pipes, or sputtering water flow
• Odors originating from the unit
